Title: Produce Buyer Classification: Exempt Reports To: Director of Produce Job Description Position Summary: The Produce Buyer will be responsible to drive sales growth with exciting deals, new re-orderable items, all while maintaining appropriate inventory turns and gross margin levels at our stores. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Responsible for ensuring that all product is as good as or better than RPI’s produce specs during all seasons • Responsible for finding and negotiating best prices on all products with all suppliers • Will be required to analyze price trends and assess their impact on future activities as well as continuously develop market knowledge, of all aspects of the produce market, in all markets Vallarta does business, as well as produce categories • Reviews costs to ensure items purchased are at the lowest cost consistent with considerations of quality, reliability of source, deliveries, and urgency of need • Negotiate favorable terms in order to gain maximum advantage for costs and vendor funding opportunities • Maximize inventory turns without running out, with fill rates of 97% or higher and with consistent quality • Interact as a team with sales, warehousing and distribution and develop strong professional working relationships everyone they interact with, both Vallarta team members, suppliers, etc. professional at all times • Develop a strong working relationship with each produce supervisor, produce manager and other operational team members General Duties and Responsibilities: • Visits stores, as needed, to: o Follow the store’s policies on purchases and priority of local vendors o Monitor programs, and obtain store feedback and to assess overall implementation effectiveness as needed o Plan attractive produce displays with consistent, readable, clear signs o Ensure handling of produce adheres to Company procedures and standards; cull, replenish and rotate produce throughout the day; mark down produce that is not selling to reduce losses o Attend store and buyers meetings to coordinate promotions Knowledge and Skills: • Possess excellent negotiation, listening, and verbal communication along with excellent writing and computer skills • Manage, track and control several ongoing projects concurrently • Exhibit strong ability to analyze data, make judgments and develop reports • Be extremely self-motivated, take initiative and drive results • Multi-task and work in fast paced, multiple-priority environment • Be highly organized and detail oriented • Ability to be a change agent and not get easily frustrated with external and internal obstacles. Must have the attitude and aptitude to overcome • Be available to respond to calls on urgent matters, including after business hours, on weekends and holidays if necessary Required Education and Experience: • BA/BS Degree preferred • 10+ years of Diverse Purchasing experience preferred • Excellent knowledge of produce; solid understanding of produce varieties handled in a wholesale operation • Understanding of regulatory requirements (Prop 65, FDA, USDA...) • Solid understanding of produce procurement • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) • Bi-lingual in Spanish as this will facilitate communication with associates at store level • Acceptable Department of Motor Vehicles driving record Physical Demands Will be required to spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers. May also have to do some light lifting of supplies and materials from time to time. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to team members and to convey detailed spoken instructions to other team members accurately, clearly, or quickly. Manage several requests and situations at one time or simultaneously (multitask). Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is management, exempt level position, must be able to work a flexible schedule as required by operations (any day of the week and different schedule shifts as needed). Requirements:

If you apply in-person or come to our store(s) as part of the application process, we may need to take your temperature or other similar information as part of our health protection policies. However, this information is not retained. • Inferences. We gather information about your employment history with Vallarta, such as the company location/facility to which you are assigned, position and description of duties, fulltime and part-time status, pay rate, as well as descriptions about your job performance and skills. We may also draw other inferences such as your characteristics, job preferences, personal hobbies, activities, foreign language capabilities, other abilities and the like.
