Title: Senior Accountant Classification: Exempt Reports To: Accounting Manager Job Description Position Summary: Looking for a strong senior accountant for a midsize retail organization who can do full cycle accounting functions applying general principles of accounting. Must be strong in general ledger functions and financial close. This is a hands-on position. General Duties and Responsibilities: •Oversee and cross train Jr Accountant’s responsibility -Daily reconciliation of Sales and accounts receivable, daily bank deposits and wire, Warehouse AR aging, daily account reconciliation of warehouse inventory •Oversee and cross train Banking responsibility - Cross train with the banking team for daily store deposits, credit card settlements •Prepare journal entries and accrual entries for the period end close. Cross train with staff accountant •Prepare monthly asset and liability schedules and reconcile every period •Reconcile balance sheet accounts every period and submit for Controller’s review •Full responsibility for the preparation of the General Ledger entries and reconciliation for the month-end closing •Assist with analyzing financial statements on a monthly basis and report on variances •Prepare expense analysis pivot tables and reports for management every period •Assist with review of calculation and analysis of prepaid expenses, accrued expenses and employee benefits •Prepare business property statements for submission •Coordinate requests with internal and external auditors •Assist with annual financial audits •Reviews and recommends modifications to the accounting systems and procedures •Manage the Fixed asset accounting process and reconcile fixed assets to GL every period •Assist in the Preparation of cash flow forecasting •Responsible for interunit reconciliations every period •Assist in the budget process and cross train with the Accounting Manager •Any other projects assigned from time to time Knowledge and Skills: •Must demonstrate numerical aptitude, ability to perform detailed work •Experience in bank reconciliations •Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing •Must have ability to work independently & thrive in a fast‐paced team office environment •Must have a positive attitude and enjoy working with people •Proficient in Microsoft Office •Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines Required Education and Experience: •A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or finance is a must •Very strong accounting background required •3-5 years of accounting experience preferably in retail industry •Advanced Excel skills •Retail industry experience preferred •Good communication skills and must be a team player •Meet deadlines and be very resourceful •Microsoft Dynamics AX or Great plains accounting software preferred Physical Demands May also have to do some light lifting of supplies and materials from time to time. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is an exempt Level Position; Monday – Friday, schedule would be based on business necessity and coordinated through the reporting supervisor.
