Title: Mgr, Insurance/Underwriting Classification: Exempt Reports To: Risk Management Director Job Description Position Summary: The Mgr, Insurance/Underwriting oversees the development and optimization of Vallarta’s overall insurance program to manage and minimize risk and costs. The Insurance Risk Manager manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. General Duties and Responsibilities: • Being an Mgr, Insurance/Underwriting implements processes that identify risk exposure and classify, measure, and manage insurable risks • Defines strategic objectives and policies to ensure adequate insurance coverage for the organization and to develop risk financing budgeting • Develops the appropriate mix of insurance coverage for the organization and negotiate policy pricing and terms with vendors • Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure • Handle the processing of daily claims involving customers and vendors Investigate and document hazard reviews as it related to involving insurance carriers • Conduct investigations to determine facts resulting in costs attributable to recorded incidents, and recommend the appropriate course of action for each opened case • Respond appropriately to correspondence of attorney retention, reviewing demands, engaging into negotiations and collaborating with a company attorney to determine allegations and outline future risk • Assess the risks claims involving processes exposure or deficiencies in order to determine liability and exposure • Conduct risk assessment; identify risk’ advise and recommend solutions to Director of RM Knowledge and Skills: • Empathetic Listening skills with an innate curiosity • Multi-task and prioritize workload • Must be highly organized and detail-oriented • Able to work with minimal supervision and accomplish expectations • Handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately • Function in a fast-paced environment • Able to travel as required by business necessity • Outstanding customer service skills • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills • Possess above average “soft skills” such as leading, mentoring, motivating and ensuring morale remains strong within the department • Self-starter. Analytical, Solution/Goal-oriented • Bilingual (Spanish) – read, write, speak preferred Physical Demands This position will be required to spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers. May also have to do some light lifting of supplies and materials from time to time. Expressing or exchanging ideas utilizing spoken word to impart oral information to team members and to convey detailed spoken instructions to other team members accurately, clearly, or quickly. Manage several requests and situations at one time or simultaneously (multitask). Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is management, exempt level position, must be able to work a flexible schedule as required by operations (any day of the week and different schedule shifts as needed) and be flexible in terms of work location as GL investigations need to be conducted at various company locations.

Requirements:

Required Education and Experience: • Minimum of 5 years in insurance sales, insurance underwriting or insurance marketing (preferably multi-store grocery or drug store chain with annual sales exceeding $250 million) • Experience in property insurance, general liability insurance, auto insurance and financial and professional liability coverages • Previous work experience related to GL, WC, Property, Cyber, Crime insurance management • Prior experience implementing changes in a company’s policies and procedures and ensuring adherence to them • Professional designation or equivalent training • Experience in reading and interpreting contracts, including leases • Experience in non-insurance methods of managing risk • Experience in evaluating insurance contracts • Experience in analyzing loss information • Prior experience implementing changes in a company’s policies and procedures and ensuring adherence to them
