This is a great opportunity for someone to break into the news business in a role that will both challenge you and give some great first-market experience. The right candidate will be a true hybrid of talents, including the ability to write, edit, post to our website and social media, and to shoot and report in the field. This is an entry-level position, though all candidates with experience will be welcomed to apply, too. This will be a fluid position that will include a variety of tasks and assignments based on weekly needs, changing seasons, and daily news assignments. Included in the daily tasks will be posting compelling content to our website and social media, and reporting in the field in areas needed. We are looking for a person with a great attitude, team spirit, and pride in their work. Strong news judgment and writing and editing skills are a must, though we will train you in all areas to help you develop in the right role for you and for us. HOURS: Hours will vary based on newsroom needs and could included both weekday and weekend assignments, as well as dayside or nightside reporting. SALARY: Will be discussed and determined based on skill set and experience. - Developing skills for a hypbrid position that will include both in-house and in the field work - Working a weekly, assigned shift on the producer end; That means you will be responsible for putting together a particular newscast with packages, VOs and VOSOTs, learning to enter the proper director commands through our ENPS system, editing video including teases, writing some scripts, and producing the show from the booth during newscasts - Becoming proficient at Edius, our news editing system - Learning to use our web content management system and being trained to post to social media - On the reporting side, being able to shoot with a camera in the field, then edit video into its on-air format - Posting all reporting work to our website/social media - Staying current on local, state and national news issues; Researching and understanding those issues as well as the people involved in them, such as elected officials. - Show a positive and determined attitude that is flavored by constant curiosity about the news in our community. - Represent KALB-TV positively in the community in a courteous and professional manner. - Participate in promotional activities including public appearances - Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned - Respond to breaking news and other urgent newsroom situations as required - Be prepared to work extended and odd hours, especially during hurricane season - Be open to working weekends/holidays as needed - Participate in coaching and training

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in journalism or communications preferred, although similar degrees will be considered • Ability to work independently in a backpack, multimedia environment • Ability to edit on non-linear systems such as Edius • Strong news judgment • Knowledge of local, state and national current events, newsmakers, and issues • Ability to conduct in-depth research and pursue investigative stories effectively • Good newswriting and copy editing ability for all platforms including social media • The ability to post to www.kalb.com and KALB's Twitter and Facebook accounts is required. • Knowledge of libel laws and ethical foundations of journalism Maintain professional personal appearance as defined by KALB-TV management • Ability to work cooperatively with others to create a sense of teamwork in the presentation of news and other programming • Ability to conduct probing, in-depth and engaging interviews • Proficiency in current and emerging newsgathering and production technologies • Knowledge of news production techniques and demonstrated ability to develop engaging presentation • Enhance stories by providing insight and perspective. • Ability to think quickly and respond appropriately in high pressure situations • Valid drivers license with good driving record • Ability to lift, carry and maneuver up to 20 lbs. • Ability to work in all weather conditions • Flexibility to work any assigned shift ◘ Come join our news team, apply online at https://gray.tv/careers#currentopenings and attach resume
