THE COMPANY: Since 1945, EBONY has celebrated and chronicled Black excellence and leadership worldwide. In January 2021, the iconic brand was relaunched under new ownership as EBONY Media Group, a diversified multi-platform media company. This is an exciting chapter for the beloved brand, and we are looking for talented, enthusiastic candidates to join our close-knit, highly collaborative team. THE ROLE: EBONY Media Group is seeking a dynamic and detail oriented individual to serve as Copy Editor. Reporting to the Editor-In-Chief, the Copy Editor will be responsible for editing and fact-checking content. The ideal candidate must be passionate about EBONY’s mission of “Moving Black Forward.” RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to): • Copyedit monthly cover stories, longform articles and special editorial packages to correct spelling, grammar, and style errors. • Proofread corporate materials, decks and some branded projects as needed. • Help reporters and story editors with fact checking and issues of structure. • Work with freelance fact-checker for larger projects as needed. • Ensure the tone of stories is in line with EBONY editorial strategy, and the voice and standards of EBONY. • Ensure consistency in EBONY style and help establish style guidelines. • Work closely with managing editor to meet copy deadlines. • Attend editorial production meetings.

• Bachelor’s Degree required • Minimum 3 years’ experience in digital media/online publishing • Thorough knowledge of SEO • Excellent written communication and grammar • Highly organized and detail oriented • Strong collaboration skills with both staff and freelance writers
