Summary: The purpose of the Director of Design is to establish and maintain policy and procedure relating to facility planning and design and develop internal plan & design standards. Essential Functions: • Provides a full range of professional management services required to support a multi-million dollar design/build department. • Leads internal design direction during RFP and lease extension proposal development including participation in oral presentations and interviews with clients, as required. • Manages external interior design consultants developing schematic design packages, including layouts, renderings, materials boards and design narratives, for RFP and lease extension proposals. • Creates and maintains HMSHost plan standards including plan set structure, standardized details, responsibility matrix, and related. • Creates and maintains HMSHost design standards for furniture, finishes & kitchen equipment. Partners with Culinary and Procurement teams on development of same. • Sources and secures external interior design firms and food service designers. Partners with regional Pre-Construction Directors to source local designers for RFPs. • Trains external design partners on HMS Host plan standards, design standards, and Design & Construction procedures/processes. • Provides information to Estimating and Procurement departments to establish budget parameters for projects. • Provides design support to standardize equipment, materials, and finishes. • Provides project management support of internal concept finishes, equipment, and operating requirements. • Provides support in the development and maintenance of new and existing concepts. Reporting relationship and other important information: • The Director Design position as described falls under the Fair Labor Standards act as an Exempt position • The position reports to the Sr. Director, Design & Construction Program Support • Requires ability to travel up 30% of the time

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Work Environment: • Requires a Bachelors degree from an accredited school of architecture, design or relevant experience. • Requires five years varied experience in the hospitality, food service or design field with an emphasis on interior architecture and design build projects. • Requires proven ability to successfully work on and manage multiple projects at varying stages of development. • Requires knowledge of CAD and graphic software (Adobe Acrobat & Bluebeam). • Requires advanced project management skills to manage multiple projects and tasks effectively. • Requires strong analytical skills and excellent business judgment with the ability to communicate persuasively to all levels of management • Requires strong oral & written communication and relationship building skills.
