Job Summary/Description: WAFF 48 is looking for a passionate individual to elevate our award-winning sports coverage across the Tennessee Valley. The WAFF 48 viewing area is home to a fanbase passionate for athletics at all levels. High school sports offer 9 months of coverage opportunities from football, basketball, baseball/softball and more. WAFF 48 produces the area's top-rated high school football highlights coverage in our "48 Blitz' weekly program. We also produce a digital "High School Football Preview" program highlighting players, coaches and teams from across the area. Alabama A&M University, the University of North Alabama and the University of Alabama-Huntsville all field collegiate teams at the D1-D2 levels. North Alabama and southern Tennessee are also dominated by fans loyal to Alabama, Auburn and Tennessee athletics. Huntsville is also home to a professional hockey team (Huntsville Havoc) and a minor league baseball team (Rocket City Trash Pandas). This expansion position will include three primary responsibilities: 1) Weekend evening sports anchoring with fill-in opportunities during the week. 2) Creating original sports content during the week for the station’s digital platforms. 3) Filming sports content and interviews for use in weekday and weekend sports reports. The ideal candidate will bring energy, passion and a high-level of sports expertise to all three listed responsibilities. Three days of the workweek will be partially dedicated to creating digital content to WAFF 48’s various platforms (website, apps, social media, OTT). Content could include (but is not limited to) web stories, video series, podcasts and live reports). We are looking for a collaborator who can work well in a team setting. This position will interface closely with the station's Sports Director and newsroom management to craft winning strategies and provide the best sports coverage in the Tennessee Valley. Other responsibilities include (but not limited to) the following: ▪ Creating, organizing and distributing sports content across WAFF 48's digital platforms. ▪ Anchoring on-air sports segments on the weekends and as-needed during the week. ▪ Working directly with Sports Director and newsroom managers to cover local sports content and games. ▪ Daily use of professional camera and editing equipment. ▪ React to breaking news. ▪ Must have good editorial judgment. ▪ Must be able to carry 25+ pounds of camera equipment on a regular basis. ▪ Required to maintain upkeep of station vehicle.

Requirements:

▪ Must be passionate and knowledgeable regarding high school, collegiate and professional sports ▪ Must have basic knowledge of editing and scripting systems.
