Quality Assurance Lab Technician Responsibilities: The Quality Assurance Lab Technician will be responsible for monitoring quality and food safety parameters and practices in a food production plant environment. Work will include execution of standardized analytical, microbiological, and sensory evaluation tests to determine product conformance to standards. QA Lab Technician Job Duties: ● Conduct standardized analytical tests (pH, water activity, and others as assigned) on food products and compare results to product specifications and regulatory requirements to determine if product is fully compliant. ● Perform Sensory Evaluation on samples of finished product to assure that the flavor profile and product texture conform to written standards. ● Prepare a Certificate of Analysis (COA) for every item that is produced in our manufacturing facility, based on the analytical and sensory evaluations. ● Notify Production Leadership and the Food Safety Director if a product is found to be non-compliant. ● Complete a Corrective Action report to document how the non-compliant product was reworked (into a state of compliance) or discarded if no rework options are available. ● Conduct fully documented, daily Good Manufacturing Practice and Food Safety audits of the production facility and provides them to the Production Manager and Food Safety Manager. ● Work in conjunction with the Production Team, assuring that all production batches and lots are sampled. ● Prepare microbiological samples for third party testing laboratory using proper aseptic technique. ● Record and compile test results or prepare graphs, charts or reports as directed by the Food Safety Manager. ● Clean and sterilize lab equipment. ● Conduct ATP and microbiological swabbing as required by the Food Safety Manager and our Environmental monitoring program. ● Take samples of air, product for microbiological analysis using proper aseptic technique. Capable of preparing dilutions for plating on Petrifilm plates. Accurately read plates and reports counts based on dilution rates. QA Laboratory Technician Qualifications ● Incumbent should have a minimum of an Associates degree in Food Science, Microbiology,or a related discipline. A Bachelor’s degree would be preferred. ● Working knowledge of food chemistry and food microbiology. ● Minimum of one year of laboratory experience in a commercial or academic setting. Previous experience in a food production facility is strongly preferred. ● A working knowledge of cGMPs and HACCP is strongly preferred. ● Able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs, work in cold and hot environments, and capable of walking and standing for a minimum of one hour is required to meet the demands of this job. QA Laboratory Technician Skills: Information Analysis, Technical Reporting, Technical Training, Developing Standards, Problem Solving, Decision Making, Effective Written and Oral Communication Skills.
