Description:

Purpose: The Senior Staff Auditor is responsible for planning and conducting audits of internal controls using a variety of techniques and tools to evaluate both the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls. This position is responsible for communicating the results of any audits including; control deficiencies, potential impact, and recommendations to management in a clearly written and concise audit report. Essential Functions: • Plans, leads, and completes audits designed to evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls with regards to operational, financial, or compliance activities or some aspects of each individually or collectively. • Plans audits of internal controls, including preparation of client assistance materials, auditor assignments and preparation of weekly status reports and performs some test work procedures to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls. • Researches and documents relevant process for audit engagement through effective interviewing skills, research, and reviews of existing documentation and prepares narratives, flowcharts, and risk matrices to document that understanding • Assists in preparation of risk assessments in conjunction with audit leadership consistent with established auditing standards and techniques. • Prepares detailed audit reports in a clear and concise manner outlining the audit’s objectives, scope, findings, and audit opinion. • Organizes audit closing meetings and communicates audit results to various levels of management both orally and in writing and coordinates with management to find mutually acceptable responses and actions to audit findings. • Obtains management responses to audit findings and reviews them for reasonableness. Also, performs follow-up reviews as often as every six months to report on the progress of action plans from management based on auditor recommendations. • Assists in the training and development of staff auditors with attention focused on the overall conduct of the audit, audit methodologies, control evaluation and analysis, work paper technique, audit findings presentations, and report writing. • Participates in special projects or requests from management, including fraud investigations, consulting activities, or other special requests. Reporting Relationship: The Senior Staff Auditor reports to the Director, Internal Audit.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Work Environment: • Education and Experience: The combination of education and professional experience must exceed 3 years: - In a technical role: Requires 3 years of experience engaged in developing and delivering internal audit programs. - A bachelor’s degree in a program related to the functional area can count for 1 of the 3-year requirement. - In the industry: 3 years of Hospitality, F&B and/or Retail experience - Preferred: IIA or similar certification • Specialized Training: - Training that leads to an in-depth understanding of internal control identification and evaluation - Training that leads to knowledge of fraud investigation, IT & Digital audit, and AuditBoard (or similar system knowledge) - Knowledge of requirements of the SAS (Statement of Audit Standards) of the AICPA and Financial Accounting Standards with broad business knowledge, experience, and insight • Specialized Skillset/Competencies/Traits - Business acumen and also has the mindset required to understand the long-term implications of Functional planning and to advance the organizations goals - Demonstrated history of understanding the needs of the business, stakeholders, the employee population and individual circumstances - Demonstrated history of creating and maintaining positive work environments through coaching, developing, and leading teams to achieve common goals • Location/Travel: - Requires regular hybrid attendance at F&B Center of Excellence in Bethesda, MD o Requires ability to travel to airport locations up to 30%
