Job Title: Cashier Reports to: Front End Manager Status: Hourly/Non-Exempt Schedule: Varied Overview: Cashiers are the ambassadors of the store and are responsible for creating a positive experience for our customers during their daily interactions. They are in charge of ringing up customer purchases, providing excellent customer service, informing customers about loyalty programs, events, and in-store specials. Being accurate, upholding policies and procedures and being a proactive problem-solver are essential to the position. Job Functions: Daily Responsibilities • Ensures accurate prices and product categories are rung it at the register. • Communicates using storewide paging system for inquiries and communication, as necessary. • Shares price discrepancies with appropriate departments. • Provides accurate and appropriate discounts, coupon processing and tender acceptance. • Completes required paperwork to process special orders, merchandise returns, debit/credit card or EBT/SNAP card transactions, WIC transactions, etc… • Maintains accurate paperwork throughout shift, and reconciles drawer as necessary. • Maintains the physical appearance of the cash register area, this includes cleaning countertops, organizing and stocking bags, returning baskets, sweeping and dusting. • Keeps customer line count at 2-3, by paging for cashier back-up as necessary. • Maintains familiarity with products, their location and product specials. • Continually increases number of produce PLU numbers memorized and takes initiative to stay current with seasonal produce. • Finds productive tasks to do between customer transactions. • Provides assistance and additional on-the-job training to new staff cashiers.

Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience: • High school diploma or equivalent. • Ability to learn to operate POS system, cash register and all credit/debit card machines. • Knowledge of 10 key operation is helpful. • Basic understanding of money handling. • Excellent communication skills. • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure. • Previous natural foods experience preferred. • Ability to learn all federal regulations as they relate to Food Stamps, WIC, OLCC • Excellent interpersonal skills. • Of legal age to sell alcohol (18 years old). • Ability to provide excellent customer service and interact with a wide variety of customers.
