Description:

Reports to: Store Manager Status: Full-time, exempt Schedule: Varied days/hours Overview: Oversees healthy, convenient, fresh food offerings within grocery store prepared foods department. Demonstrates knowledge of scaling recipes for high volume production. Experienced with forecasting sales and meeting margin and profitability goals. Provides exceptional training and development to staff. Creates and implements systems to support HR functions, ordering, inventory control, food safety manuals, scheduling, etc… Provides outstanding customer service to internal/external stakeholders and within the community. Maintains the integrity of all product within prepared foods department. Supports branding and marketing of Grab-n-Go, Deli and Hot Rock initiatives. Promotes sustainable business practices and environmental responsibility. Excellent communication and leadership skills. Job Functions: Daily Responsibilities • Monitors sales and margin of department and makes adjustments as needed. • Prepares department orders, maintains inventory and quality control of deli and grab n go selections. • Provides regular daily engagement with staff and customers. • Creates a forum to engage customers and learn their wants within the department. • Maintains open communication and conflict resolution for staff and customer concerns and assists manager in providing insight to department needs. • Supports programs that minimizes shrink. Strategic Planning • Collaborates on systems, processes and training initiatives to support the department. • Sources, secures and nurtures strong vendor partner relationships with Chef. • Conducts research as needed to further define customers’ demands, understands trends and captures best practices. • Shares insights in new store kitchen layouts and equipment recommendations. • Researches new developments in equipment that can offer value and added safety. • Partners with Marketing Director to determine packaging of Grab-n-Go private label offerings that clearly communicates product attributes and highlights value. • Evaluates opportunities for expanded offerings including educational community outreach classes and cooking demonstrations. Operations • Possesses deep knowledge of budgeting, food cost analysis, labor costs and P&L accountability. • Prepares training manuals, food safety protocols, order sheets and inventory control documents to support efficiencies and safety of department. • Sets pricing strategy in alignment with product quality and competitive positioning. Quality & Safety Standards • Creates, maintains and trains on food safety manual and procedures to ensure proper food handling. • Trains staff on proper use, care of and maintenance of equipment and supplies. • Defines and maintains all quality, safety and sanitation standards including proper storage, rotation and use of food. • Manages outside vendors to ensure equipment is maintained and serviced regularly. • Provides purchase guidelines to ensure quality, consistent ordering and audits to ensure vendors are adhering to company standards. • Proficient knowledge of and adherence to Health Compliance Regulations and record keeping. Staff Hiring, Training & Development • Ensures consistent and equitable administration of HR policies, procedures and guidelines to facilitate effective staff relations. • Develops training guides and standards while providing strong leadership to department staff. • Supports, trains, and develops staff on merchandising, ordering, back stock management, physical inventory procedures, shrink control and customer service. • Assists in interviewing, hiring, training and providing timely reviews for department staff. • Maintains good communication with all staff members. • Remedies situations relating to customer service, safety, productivity, performance, security or any other activity or situation that may have an adverse effect on the workplace. • Strengthens department and business by developing staff for succession planning and business growth. • Provides daily guidance working with staff in stores. Marketing • Provides exceptional customer service and builds rapport with internal stakeholders and staff as well external customers, neighboring businesses and the community beyond. • Works closely with Marketing Director to ensure successful launch of product offerings, menu changes, specials to include staff education, POP/signage, events, social media, couponing, sampling, etc… Quality & Safety Standards • Maintains the highest quality produce offering of wholesome and fresh products while maintaining value proposition. • Responds to all food safety concerns immediately with regard to produce, equipment, staff handling and communicates with all parties necessary to ensure public health is maintained. • Assists in training staff on proper use, care of and maintenance of equipment and supplies. • Maintains all quality, safety and sanitation standards including proper storage, rotation and use of food though leadership and best practices. • Maintains compost and recycling practices. Additional Job Functions • Maintains punctual, regular and predictable attendance. • Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation. • Displays excellent communication skills required in working with customers including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure. • Respectfully takes direction from the Supervisor/ Manager. Qualifications and Experience • Experience in Food Service Industry and minimum of three (3) of retail management experience. • Broad functional experience in purchasing, inventory control, receiving and merchandising. • Must have strong communication and collaboration skills. • Values community, sustainability, passion for food and fun. • Cooking and food experience, a plus.
