Job Title: Grocery Lead Reports to: Grocery Manager Status: Hourly/Non-Exempt/Full-time Schedule: Varied Overview: The Grocery Lead assists the Grocery Manager with the day-to-day operations of the store to meet objectives for sales, margin, inventory, and customer service. The Grocery Lead implements strategies to improve customer service, drive store sales and increase profitability while ensuring customer needs are met, complaints are resolved and service is quick and efficient. They maintain the store appearance and product presentation to company standards and provide support to store staff during peak periods or when scheduling conflicts arise. Work hours could include nights, weekends and holidays. Flexibility in store assignment is also required. Job Functions: Daily Responsibilities • Actively stocks, faces and rotates grocery department items while following established merchandising procedures and assists with resets as needed. • Ensures that unsellable items are returned for credit or disposed of following Green Zebra procedures. • Participates in quarterly inventory counts. • Keeps all supplies stocked and equipment in working order, communicates maintenance needs to Grocery Manager. • Communicates supplier issues and shelf/product needs to Grocery Manager. • Assists Grocery Manager in the design and implementation of procedures for ordering, receiving, inventory tracking, and back room organization. • Identifies training opportunities and coordinates needs with Grocery Manager. • Meets labor, sales and margin goals determined in conjunction with the Store Manager. • Maintains working knowledge of personnel reports, margin reports, weekly sales numbers and financial goals. • Communicates relevant sales, margin and labor goals to team on a regular basis. • Communicates standards, expectations, policy changes and product knowledge to team. • Receives orders, or ensures proper receiving in accordance with established procedures; maintains accurate receiving records. • Reviews invoices and coordinates returns and credits from suppliers where applicable; maintains accurate accounting of credit requests. Staff Training & Development • Provides excellent customer service and develops other department staff to provide outstanding customer service. • Addresses performance and personnel issues in a timely manner and in adherence to Green Zebra Grocery policies. • Assists the Grocery Manager as necessary to train, schedule and maintain a qualified team. • Conducts or assists in providing performance reviews of assigned staff. • Properly documents personnel matters. Quality & Safety Standards • Ensures that the sales floor department shelves, displays, aisles and storage areas are maintained in a clean, orderly condition while satisfying Health Department and store safety standards. • Provides a safe environment for staff and customers, responding to emergencies and safety hazards immediately. • Maintains safety and quality of all grocery products by monitoring storage conditions, temperatures and shelf life; discounts short dated product. • Maintains compliance with all safety practices and procedures, both throughout the store and within the department.

Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience: • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in retail grocery industry. • Minimum of two (2) years at management or supervisory level. • Strong knowledge of local and natural foods. • Broad functional experience in sourcing, purchasing, merchandising, inventory control/receiving and staff training. • Proven leadership, communication and collaboration skills. • Demonstrates interest in researching trends and best practices to provide education and efficiencies for improved results that challenges standard practices. • Values community, sustainability, passion for food and fun. • Experience with start-up business “outside the box” thinking and innovation as well as nutrition knowledge a plus. • Ability to travel regularly throughout the Portland area (mileage reimbursed). • Ability to work flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
